Euromecc, the Italy-based supplier of bulk materials handling and storage systems, has kicked off 2022 with an announcement that a new silo installation for Faroe Islands’ construction company, Articon, received its first shipment on New Year’s Eve.

The installation, located in Sund just north of Tórshavn (the capital of the Faroe Islands), consists of 2 upright bolted silos providing 1.980 m3 of storage each (3.960 m3 in total), which is equivalent to 5.250 t of cement.

In order to withstand the harsh North Atlantic climate, the silos have been designed with structural reinforcements, allowing them to endure windspeeds of up to 215 km/hr, and related electrical systems have been given a high level of IP protection.

The installation, which was designed to be compact and have a limited impact on its surroundings, also features:

Preliminary discussions surrounding the Sund project began in 2015, with further details added over the following years. In 2020, during the middle of the pandemic, Euromecc was awarded the contract for the supply and site assistance of this cement terminal.

Articon is one of the Faroe Islands’ leading construction companies and decided to invest in this project in order to become independent in terms of its cement supply.
